Real Estate Term: Contingency
Contingency: A part of the agreement that must be met, otherwise the other party can cancel the contract.
For example, a buyer interested in a home may place an offer but it is contingent upon the building being cleared by a certified home inspector. If it isn’t cleared, the contingency has not been met and the buyer can rescind the agreement.
